Dr. Worrill received his Ph.D. in political history, social theory, and curriculum and instruction from the University of Wisconsin. He joined the staff of Northeastern Illinois University in 1976 and on January 1, 2004, Dr. Worrill was appointed Director of the University’s Jacob H. Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies. He is also the academic program coordinator and professor of Inner City Studies in Northeastern’s Department of Educational Leadership and Development.
Dr. Worrill is heavily involved in social and political advocacy, focusing on African independence and self-determination at "home and abroad." As National Chairman of the National Black United Front (NBUF), Dr. Worrill and NBUF have become leading proponents and organizers of a World African Centered Educational Thrust, a project having the goal of changing the American public school curriculum to more accurately reflect the contributions of African and African people in America in all subject areas.
He and NBUF delegations presented petitions to international organizations charging the United States Government with genocide and human rights violations. These petitions were presented to the Commission on Human Rights in Geneva, Switzerland in 1997 and later to the United Nations.
Dr. Worrill was one of the co-founders of the Task Force for Black Political Empowerment, an organization that helped launch and support the late Mayor Harold Washington's successful, and historic bid to become Chicago's first African American Mayor.
He was appointed Special Consultant of Field Operations for the Million Man March / Day of Absence that took place in Washington, D.C. in 1995 and was a member of that event’s Executive Council and National Organizing Committee.
Finally, Dr. Worrill is an elected Economic Development commissioner of the National Coalition of Blacks for Reparations in America (N' COBRA). Through N' COBRA, he helped organize a delegation that participated in the historic United Nations World Conference Against Racism (WCAR) held in Durban, South Africa in 2001.
Dr. Worrill writes a syndicated weekly column, "Worrill's World," that appears in most African American newspapers across the country. These writings are currently being prepared for publication under the title, African Centered Essays: Critique and Commentaries. Among his publications: Worn!! 's World, published by the National Black United Front, Black Books Bulletin, Vol. 8, 1991 Annual, NBUF; Genocide, and the Reparations Movement, also published by the National Black Front, Chicago, 1986; and The Historical Trends of "African American Participation In Electoral Politics," Black Books Bulletin, United Front, Chicago, 2001..
