Yvonne R. Jones, an instructor at the Jacob H. Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies of Northeastern Illinois University, holds a Master of Arts degree from Northeastern Illinois University and a Master of Liberal Arts degree from the University of Chicago.
During the last fourteen years of her tenure as a Chicago Public School teacher, she was a curriculum resource teacher at her local school. In that position, she worked with the administration, teachers and students to provide instructional support to help integrate African-centered content into the curriculum. To foster that initiative, she often worked in collaboration with other community-based, culturally-centered programs and organizations.
Currently, Ms. Jones is the director of the Kemetic Institute of Chicago, a research and teaching organization which focuses on African history and culture with an emphasis on ancient Nile Valley civilizations. She is also a priest in the Temple of the African Community of Chicago. Her other organizational affiliations include the Association for the Study of Classical African Civilizations (ASCAC).
